The Bombay High Court on Thursday refused to grant interim relief to Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami in a 2018 abetment to suicide case while sending him to two-week judicial custody.

A fresh plea by Republic TV Editor Goswami, 47, for interim bail was posted by the high court for hearing today. Depending on the hearing, Goswami is likely to get bail today.

The editor-in-chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami was arrested by the police on Wednesday for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer in 2018. As per initial information, Goswami has been charged under Section 306 and Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case for which Arnab Goswami was arrested concerns the death of Anvay Naik, managing director of Concorde Designs Private Limited, in 2018. A suicide note by Naik accused Goswami and two others – Feroz Shaikh and Neetish Sarda – of not paying dues worth Rs 5.40 crore. Naik and his mother Kumud Naik were found dead in their home in Kavir village of Alibaug, Scroll reported.

The Alibaug Police on Wednesday arrested Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director of Republic Media Network Arnab Goswami for abetment to suicide in a 2018 case. After the news of his arrest, Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut addressed it and in a video posted on Instagram sent out a message for the Maharashtra government.

In the video, Kangana took a dig at the Maharashtra government and said, "Maharashtra government you arrested Arnab Goswami today, beat him ou, pulled his hair, and assaulted him. How many more houses will you break? How many voices will you stop? Sonia Sena, how many will you shut up? We will continue to speak and fight."

Back in August, the wife of the interior designer had called for action against Goswami in a video message on Twitter. The caption of the tweet read, "Arnab Goswami is shouting for Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide, but what about my husband and mother-in-law who suicided because of Mr. Arnab Goswami? What is happening to my case? When will justice be granted to our family? WHY STILL THERE IS NO ACTION?"
