Pune: 17 dead after residential complex wall collapses following continuous rains, rescue operation underway

The incident happened near Talab Masjid in Pune's Kondhwa area. The wall collapsed on shanties following heavy and continuous rainfall in the city.

At least 17 people have died so far after a wall collapsed in Pune's Kondhwa area. It was a parking wall of a residential complex which collapsed late Friday night. Rescue operations are currently underway.

The incident happened near Talab Masjid in Pune's Kondhwa area. The wall collapsed on shanties following heavy and continuous rainfall in the city. 

According to reports, NDRF teams have also reached the site and is carrying rescue operation.

The shanties were built for the labourers working at a construction site nearby, they said.

The compound wall collapsed around 1.45 am Friday night in the Kondhawa area, an official said.

Pune has been witnessing heavy rainfall for the past two days. 

 

Police, fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are at the spot and carrying out the rescue operation.
