President Kovind, PM Modi and others extend greetings to nation on Maharashtra Day, Gujarat Day

May 1st is celebrated as foundation day of two states- Maharashtra and Gujarat. 

It was in the year 1960 when the state of Bombay was divided to create two news states namely Maharashtra and Gujarat. It was under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956 that the boundaries of the state were defined. 

From speeches to colourful parades, both the states celebrate this day with lot of enthusiasm. Most schools, colleges, offices remain closed on this day under the jurisdiction of the State and Central Government. 

In Maharashtra, the day is commemorated with a parade at Shivaji Park, Dadar, where the Governor of Maharashtra makes a speech. 

President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi and politicians from various parties extended their greetings to the people on this occasion.
