A look at actor-turned MP Nusrat Jahan's viral photos amid her 'love and jihad' remark
Nusrat Jahan has always been in midst of a controversy ever since she got married to business Nikhil Jain.
Trinamool Congress MP and actor Nusrat Jahan has always been in midst of a controversy ever since she got married to business Nikhil Jain. Last year, Nusrat was targeted by Muslim clerics for wearing a saree and donning sindoor and mangalsutra during her oath-taking ceremony in Parliament. Then again, Nusrat came under Muslim cleric Mufti Asad Kasmi's scanner, who asked Nusrat to change her name and not defame Islam.
Mufti Kazmi, vice-president of Itehaad Ulema-e-Hind and a cleric associated with Darul Uloom Deoband, stated that 'since Nusrat does not believe in Islam, she should change her name'. This happened after Nusrat Jahan attended Durga Puja on Maha Ashtami along with her husband Nikhil Jain.
She had faced a backlash in the recent past when she posed as Maa Durga for a Mahalaya photoshoot. A few users even sent her death threats over her latest post, where Nusrat posed as Goddess. The main backlash was because Nusrat was born a Muslim, who married a Hindu man.
Many users asked Nusrat to change her surname to a Hindu one. For the uninformed, Jahan had posted the image of her dressed as Goddess Durga, on the occasion of Mahalaya. A few days later, she also posted videos from the photoshoot.
On Monday (November 23), Nusrat Jahan said love and jihad don't go hand-in-hand and people come up with topics like this just before elections.
"Love is very personal. Love and jihad don't go hand-in-hand. Just before polls, people come up with topics like this. It is a personal choice who you want to be with. Be in love and start falling in love with each other. Don't make religion a political tool," said Ms Jahan in reply to question at a press conference in Kolkata.
