Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) railway station on Sunday after the Central Railway announced the cancellation and diversion of trains due to the heavy rainfall and waterlogging in Mumbai.

Coming to the aid, BMC Ward officer from L Ward distributed food packages and tea to the stranded passengers at the railway station.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the intensity of rainfall will continue for the next 24 hours. In view of the same, the Mumbai University has postponed its exams for students of open learning, which were scheduled for Monday. In addition, today, on August 5, all schools and colleges remain closed in Mumbai, Mumbai Suburbs, Palghar, Thane and Raigad.

Today, on August 5, all schools and colleges remain closed in Mumbai, Mumbai Suburbs, Palghar, Thane and Raigad.

 

In addition, the Mumbai University has postponed its exams for students of open learning, scheduled for 5th August, in view of forecast of heavy rains, according to Vinod Malale, the varsity's Public Relations Officer (PRO).

 

"Due to the IMD warning for tomorrow, holiday declared for schools and colleges in Mumbai & MMR, Palghar, Thane, Raigad districts," CMO Maharashtra tweeted. About 150 students of MIT College who were stranded due to waterlogging inside the college building were shifted to a safe place by fire brigade Pune team. 

 

 

 

 

The government had earlier appealed to the people of Mumbai to not leave their homes on Monday unless absolutely necessary. All emergency services will remain open, according to a notification issued earlier. 

 

Extremely heavy rainfalls are predicted in Mumbai today by the IMD.

The Central Railway said on Sunday that 12 trains have been cancelled, six short terminated, two partially cancelled, and one each diverted and rescheduled due to heavy rainfall, waterlogging, and boulder fall between Apta-Jite section.

In what comes as mild relief during this crisis, a message from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said that all government and semi-government employees were allowed to report late on their duties. The government also appealed to the people to stay safe at their homes and to not leave their residences, unless absolutely necessary.

 

 

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also spoke to Maharashtra Minister for Water Resources and Medical Education Girish Mahajan and reviewed the Nashik flood situation. He assured that whatever assistance required will be provided by the state government.
