The union government in a mega makeover move is planning to redevelop Delhi's Lutyens' area cover over the next five years.

The plan will have different phases on how to develop new and redevelop the existing infrastructure.

The government is planning to restructure, re-construct or renovate the existing central government buildings situated in Lutyen's Delhi.

According to sources, the government has issued a request for proposal inviting companies, bidders to send their proposals for the same.

Building a new or redevelop the existing Parliament building is going to be one of the moves by the central govenrment in its mega Lutyen's Delhi makeover plan.

 

However, it is yet to decide whether a new Parliament building is required to construct or changes and redevelopment work of the existing one be suitable.

 

The government aims to hold its August 2022 monsoon session in the new or redeveloped parliament, therefore, it has issued RFP (Request for proposal) for companies to suggest for the same.

2. Common secretariat for all central govt employees in Delhi

The discussions are also being held to decide whether a common secretariat has to be built to house all central government employees in Delhi.

 

Currently, Central government employees including bureaucrats, other employees have different offices spread across the Lutyen's Delhi including Shastri Bhavan, Krishi Bhavan, Rail Bhavam, Udyog Bhavam and many more.

 

Therefore, discussions are being held whether to raze these buildings and build a common secretariat for all the government employees or redevelop the existing ones are being  held.

3. Redevelop 3-km long central vista from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate

The Union government is also mulling to redevelop the 3-km stretch between Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate to give it a completely new look.

 

Discussions are being held to decide on how the redevelopment work on this stretch can be taken over.

The government is also holding discussions to decide whether the new structures if built, will carry a unique design.

 

Also, a decision will be taken whether the old building will stay or be razed.
