Priyanka Sharma was arrested on Friday for allegedly sharing a defaming meme on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Twitter erupted in support of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) member Priyanka Sharma who was arrested on Friday for sharing alleged defaming meme on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
DNA was first to report about the arrest of Sharma after a complaint by a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader.
She had shared a MET Gala 2019 themed meme which showed Mamata’s face superimposed on Priyanka Chopra’s body.
She was arrested and presented in Howrah Court on Friday. In her Facebook profile, Sharma claims to be the Howrah District Club Cell Convener of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha - BJYM, the youth outfit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
However, the BJYM said in a tweet that she is the district executive member of Howrah.
On Saturday, Twitter users, most of them linked with the BJP, posted tweets in her support and also shared the meme for which she was arrested.
Here are some of the tweets:
