1.Indian Navy's submarine rescue capability gets a boost
Indian Navy's Western Naval Command in Mumbai conducted the maiden trials of its newly inducted deep submergence rescue vehicle (DSRV), which also set a record for "deepest submergence by a manned vessel" in the Indian waters.

2.Indian Navy to induct two 3rd generation DSRV
DSRV for the Indian Navy has been manufactured by the UK-based JFD global. JFD will deliver two 3rd Generation Submarine Rescue Systems to the Indian Navy. The company completed the first open sea launch, dive and recovery of the DSRV in June this year on India’s west coast. The JFD has provided the Indian Navy with the first DSRV and associated kit in fly away configuration which can be rapidly mobilised.

3.Maiden trials for DSRV were conducted on October 15
"On October 15, the DSRV carried out underwater mating with a bottomed submarine at a depth of over 300 feet and transferred personnel from the submarine to the rescue vehicle," the Indian Navy said in a statement.

4.Indian Navy now equipped with a "critical capability"
Navy said these trials have proven the DSRV's ability to undertake rescue operations from disabled submarines at sea and have provided the Indian Navy with a "critical capability". The DSRV also dived successfully up to 666 metres during the trials which is a record for deepest submergence by a 'manned vessel' in the Indian waters, the Navy said.

5.DSRV creates record
The DSRV can be mobilised from Naval base at Mumbai to nearest mounting port by air, land or sea for providing rapid rescue to the submarine in distress. Second rescue kit planned for induction Visakhapatnam in 2019.

6.Indian Navy joins small league of navies
Once the trials are completed, it will put the Indian Navy into a small league of world navies with capability to search, locate and provide rescue to distressed submarines.
