Former Lok Sabha speaker and 10-time CPIM MP Somnath Chatterjee passed away on Monday morning. His room in Kolkata's Raja Basanta Roy still waits for him. Somnatha babu specifically loved his chamber room in his house. From having important political meeting to client meet, this room witnessed all.

From Harkisan Singh Surjeet to Jyoti Basu, from Ashok Mitra to Mamata Banerjee all have visited him in this room.

Today morning as one steps in Somnath Babu's room it was him all around. Somnath Chatterjee's close ally Tanmoy Bhattacharjyo said, "This was his chair, see it seems he will just come and sit here, he used to always have Jyoti Basu's photo close to him, he often used to see this photo." Chatterjee's favourite room  is filled up with Jyoti Basu's pictures as once he said he is big fan of Jyoti Basu. Wherever he used to go no matter how much tired he was he used to first come and enter his chamber stay there and then he used to go upstairs."

"Who has not come in this room - Jyoti Basu, Ashok Mitra, Mamata Banerjee, " says Swapan Roy who used to work with Somnath Chatterjee in his house.

Even after Mamata Banerjee became Chief Minister she first came to meet Somnath Chatterjee. Tanmoy Bhattacharjyo recalls, "That day Somnath da graciously received Mamata, she took blessings from him, he wished her best of luck, he was above party ". Somnath Chatterjee was the guardian of the Constitution and this room witnessed it all. When he said no to his party's direction on resigning as the Lok Sabha speaker, it was this room where the final call went to his party. Studded with books on law and politics, Somnath Chatterjee's chamber is something where he was most comfortable. The family decided to bring his body last in the chamber, his favourite place, where along with his supporters, his chair, his books, all saluted him.

 Somnath babu specifically loved his chamber room in his house. He visited this room at least once in a day. 

"Chatterjee's favourite room is filled up with Jyoti Basu's pictures as once he said he is big fan of Jyoti Basu. He had a vast range of books in his chamber." Jyoti Basu's pictures in his study room.   

Uncompromising leader Somnath Chatterjee was guardian of constitution and this room witnessed it all. He had a vast collections of books.
