Fai spent 16 months in prison.
On Saturday, Imran Khan met a group of Kashmiri leaders led by Ghulam Nabi Fai. The meeting took place in New York's Roosevelt Hotel. Others who were present included Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pak’s Permanent Representative to UN Maleeha Lodhi.
Describing the meeting, Radio Pakistan wrote: “He was talking a delegation of Kashmiri leaders from both sides of the Line of Control, led by Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai in New York. Imran Khan said he will continue to highlight the Kashmir issue at every forum and will fulfill his promise of being the Ambassador of Kashmir.”
Incidentally, Fai's not a doctorate either.
Fai was in-charge of leading the anti-India propaganda on Kashmir and served time in prison for secretly receiving millions of dollars from ISI, which was in violation of US federal laws.
Incidentally, Fai also claims he has PhD, another lie busted by the US State Attorney.
Someone should inform @ImranKhanPTI that the person who is sitting first on Imran’s right row is a convicted & has just come out of American jails, 3 years back. He is Ghulam Nabi Fai & he was making money on name of Kashmir. He used to come to Geneva too but Americans got him. https://t.co/zUAyt59kNZ

1. Fai signed up prominent Indians
He was charged with failing to register as a foreign government agent. Pakistan had denied any knowledge of his role.
Fai was born in Kashmir and later became a US citizen. In 2010, his organisation - the Kashmiri American Council - passed a controversial ‘Washington Declaration’ which was signed by three Indians who were regulars at his conferences. They were Professor Angana Chatterji, Gautam Navlakha (current on trial over the Bhima Koregaon violence) and veteran journalist Ved Bhasin.
Other prominent Indians who had attended his conferences including former Kashmir interlocutor Dileep Padgaonkar and a former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Rajinder Sachar.
2. Fai released in 2013
Many of their works were stigmatised by association with Fai. He had received funds to the tune of $ 4 million from the mid-90s. His guest lists were vetted by ISI.
Fai used to claim that his Kashmiri American Council was an ‘independent forum for Indian, Pakistani and Kashmiri voices’ but the US Justice Department proved in court that that ISI was approving the list of speakers and giving Fai ‘talking points’.
Fai was later released in 2013 after serving 16 months of his two-year sentence for conspiracy.
It’s hardly surprising, Khan who many call a ‘selected PM’ would meet Fai.
3. Imran 'briefs' American lawmakers over Kashmir issue
Stepping up tirade against India, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan spent the second day of his visit to the US briefing American lawmakers over Kashmir issue.
The lawmakers include US Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Lindsey Graham, reported Dawn.
Khan, whose country is facing severe economic crises, apprised the Congressmen about India's decision to abrogate Article 370, which granted special rights to people of Jammu and Kashmir, and Pakistan's stand on the matter.
