Happy Guru Nanak Jayanti! As the followers of the founder of Sikhism celebrate his birth anniversary all over the world, it is a time of celebration for families and friends. Also known as Prakash Utsav and Guru Nanak Gurupurab, this day holds a special significance for Sikhs across the globe. The devotees read the holy book of Sikhism, Guru Granth Sahib, in the gurudwaras for what is called Akhand Path. Nagar Kirtans are organised a day before the festival too. Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru, was born on this day at Talwandi near Lahore in 1469. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, his birth falls on the Kartik Purnima, which is the full moon night of the month of Kartik. The 551st Prakash Utsav is going to be celebrated on November 30 this year.
