Robots to join Kolkata's firefighting team: All you need to know

This is the first time that the technology will be used in West Bengal.

In a first, Robots will become part of the firefighting team in Kolkata. Four robots, to be incorporated into the team in two months, will reach places and douse the fire where it is not possible for human firefighters to do the same.

This is the first time that the technology will be used in West Bengal.

Here are the features of these robots and how they will function.

The robots will have cameras fitted on them. They will have sensors to detect the fire at the point of occurrence and from a 100-meter distance, they will fight the fire with water through pipes which will be connected to the water point in their system.

These robots are made up of steel and will be battery-operated with 4 hour back up.

Sujit Bose, fire chief, Minister in Charge said, "We were having huge difficulty in fighting fire in dingy places and smoke is a factor which prevents human firefighters to work. Therefore we have already ordered these robots."

The Robots are operated through remote control.
