Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday congratulated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on winning a massive mandate in the Delhi Assembly Election 2020.

Gandhi took to Twitter to wish Kejriwal, congratulated Kejriwal and his party, with a short post.

"My best wishes & congratulations to Mr Kejriwal and the AAP on winning the Delhi Assembly elections," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Congress leader P. Chidambaram said the people of Delhi have 'defeated the polarising, divisive and dangerous agenda of the BJP'.

"AAP won, bluff and bluster lost. The people of Delhi, who are from all parts of India, have defeated the polarising, divisive and dangerous agenda of the BJP. I salute the people of Delhi who have set an example to other states that will hold their elections in 2021 and 2022," Chidambaram tweeted.

“I accept the results, but not the defeat. Hindu-Muslim votes were polarised. With fresh faces, Congress needs to prepare for a new fight and a long struggle for the people of Delhi. If we fight today, we will win tomorrow," Alka Lamba, Congress candidate from Chandni Chowk, said after her defeat.

BJP president JP Nadda said, “The BJP respects the mandate given by the people of Delhi. Thanks to all the workers who worked tirelessly in this election."

BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari took full responsibility for the saffron camp's tally in the national capital and asked the BJP supporters to not take the loss to the heart.

“Thank you to all the voters of Delhi. Thank you to all the party workers for their hard work We respect the mandate of people. @ArvindKejriwal congratulations to you,” Tiwari posted on Twitter in Hindi.

On being asked if he considered stepping down after the BJP's defeat in the assembly polls, he said, "It is an internal party matter. I will let you know if anything like that happens."

He also said the party will review why it failed to meet its own expectations in the Assembly polls and saw a moral victory in the fact that the party's vote share has increased since 2015.

"Delhi must have given mandate after careful thinking. Our vote percentage has increased from 32 per cent to around 38 per cent. Delhi did not reject us and the increase (in vote share) is a good sign for us," he told reporters.

BJP's Kapil Mishra congratulated Arvind Kejriwal for the "impressive victory." He thanked the BJP workers for contesting the elections "with full strength." Thanking the people of Delhi, he said "the struggle will continue."

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted: "In a democracy, the people’s verdict is supreme. I congratulate AAP and Arvind Kejriwal on his victory. I would also like to thank BJP cadres who worked hard day and night to get our message across to our people."

Congratulating AAP over its stupendous victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that people have rejected the "politics of hatred and division" and have given a "mandate against CAA and NRC".

The TMC supremo said that the Delhi Assembly poll result is a reflection of the good work done by the Arvind Kejriwal government in the last five years and the saffron party has got a "befitting reply for torturing students and women" in the national capital.

She was referring to the attacks on Jamia Milia Islamia and JNU students and incidents of molestation of Gargi College students in Delhi.

BJP will face similar results in the 2021 assembly polls in Bengal, Banerjee said.

"BJP is losing one election after another - this has been an ongoing trend. It began in Maharashtra, then in Jharkhand and now in Delhi. Everywhere the trend is very clear - the people are rejecting BJP and its politics of hatred," Banerjee told reporters in Howrah.

Claiming that the people had voted against CAA and NRC in the Delhi polls, Banerjee said there are important issues like unemployment, economy, industry, price hike and development but the Centre is focussing only on the politics of hatred.

"Arrogance and the politics of vendetta have crossed all limits since BJP returned to power at the Centre for the second consecutive time. The country is burning," she said.

On the dismal performance by Congress in the Delhi polls, Banerjee said Congress scores wherever regional parties are not strong enough to counter the BJP.

“Congratulations @ArvindKejriwal @AamAadmiParty and the people of Delhi who have given a befitting reply to BJP’s politics of hate and violence. Union ministers called for ‘gaalis’ and ‘golis’. People have given their answer,” CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury wrote in a tweet.

CPI General Secretary D. Raja said: "This is a huge defeat for the BJP considering Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had concentrated all their energy in Delhi elections. They used every possible trick to polarise the Delhi voters using CAA/NRC/NPR narrative."

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the victory is AAP's win is 'a harbinger for pro-people and inclusive politics in our country'.

“Congratulations to @ArvindKejriwal and @AamAadmiParty on a resounding victory in Delhi elections. Let this victory be a harbinger for pro-people and inclusive politics in our country,” Vijayan tweeted.

NCP Chief Sharad Pawar said: "I'm not surprised with the results coming out from the Capital. I congratulate AAP and its leadership. There is a sense of anger against the arrogance of the BJP and people have voted against it in a large number. There are a lot of people from the other States who have settled in Delhi, and therefore the result is also a reflection of what is happening (the anger) there with regard to the anti-BJP sentiment across the country. The voters have also rejected leaders who had openly raised slogans to effect 'goli mari gaddaro ko'. These divisive tactics have been rejected by the voters.

Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said: "I congratulate Mr. Kejriwal for this victory. The people of the Capital have shown they don't want to listen to man ki baat anymore but prefer jan ki baat instead. The AAP could not be defeated by the BJP even after comparing Mr. Kejriwal to a terrorist and bringing international issues into the campaign instead of local issues of development. The Delhi voters have also shown nationalism is also a personal matter and only those wearing it on the heart may not necessarily be true nationalist. This myth has been busted with this result today."
