He said that BJP Bengal is forced to recalibrate their slogan to counter Mamata Banerjee's campaign. Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in multiple times have made it clear that they will not be saying Jai Shri Ram. Rather they will say things like Joy Hind, Joy Bangla, Joy Ma Durga etc.

This has lead to a political tug of war between BJP and TMC. According to BJP, Mamata is demeaning revered Hindu God whereas Bengal CM has accused the saffron party of bringing alien culture to the state. PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah in campaign trail repeatedly dared Mamata Banerjee to arrest them for calling Jai Shri Ram slogan. Mamata Banerje in last couple of months have lost her cool when opposition workers have chanted Jai Shri Ram slogan in front of her.

Abhishek Banerjee's controversial statement

"People told me that Dilip Ghosh (state BJP president) has asked to raise slogans of Jai Maa Kali along with Jai Shri Ram. I told them that Mamata Banerjee was there so that is why Ram's TRP has suddenly gone down and Ma Kali's TRP is going up," he said at a rally here on Tuesday.

Targeting the BJP-led Centre over unemployment and farmers' suicides, Abhishek said, "When joblessness is rising and farmers are committing suicides every day, Prime Minister replies Jai Shri Ram. Our slogan is Jai Hind, Jai Bangla, Vande Mataram...."

Several BJP leader are virtually trying to drown Mamata Banerjee in 'Jai Shri Ram' message. Where Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh has sent 10 lakh postcards to Mamata, BJP spokesperson Tejinder Bagga has sent Jai Shri Ram kurta to Didi.

Banerjee in a press release claimed that some BJP supporters were spreading ‘hatred ideology’. She wrote that Bengal was being targeted in a ‘negative manner’ and said she had no problems with any slogans of political parties.

She said BJP was using the religious slogan ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as their party slogan in a ‘misconceived manner’. She wrote: “We do not respect this forcible enforcement of political slogans on others in the name of so-called RSS which Bengal never accepted. This is a deliberate attempt to sell hatred ideology through vandalism and violence which we must oppose together.”

Mamata's post said:

We wish to inform the people that some BJP supporters are trying to spread hatred ideology through one section of media - so so called BJP media and so so called fake video, fake news, misinformation and disinformation to create confusion and to suppress truth and reality.

So far as media is considered, we have no problem as it is their choice and prerogative.

From Ram Mohan Roy to Vidyasagar to other great social reformers, Bengal has been a seat of harmony, progress and forward thinking. But now, the misconceived strategy of BJP is targeting Bengal in a very negative manner.

I have no problem, regarding any particular slogan of political parties in their rallies, and for their party purpose. Every political party has their own slogan.  My party has Jai Hind, Vande Mataram. The Left has Inquilab Zindabad. Others have different slogans. We respect each other.

Jai Sia Ram, Jai Ram ji ki, Ram naam Satya hai etc have religious and social connotations. We respect these sentiments. But BJP is using religious slogan Jai Sri Ram as their party slogan in a misconceived manner by way of mixing religion with politics.

We do not respect this forcible enforcement of political slogans on others in the name of so called RSS which Bengal never accepted. This is a deliberate attempt to sell hatred ideology through vandalism and violence which we must oppose together.

One can fool some people sometimes, but cannot fool all the people all the time.

This is high time that proper action is taken to restrain political workers not to indulge in activities of creating unrest, chaos, violence and disruption of normal life by taking recourse to misplaced ideologies in the so called name of religion to create divide among the people. If all other political parties start resorting to these sort of divisive and disruptive activities, then the entire environment would become highly vitiated and counterproductive.
