Congress divided over Didi vs CBI? Bengal Cong MP Adhir Chowdhury slams Mamata, even as Rahul backs WB CM
Congress president Rahul Gandhi had removed party's West Bengal unit president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, replacing him with Somendra Nath Mitra. Chowdhury had been appointed as the chairman of the state campaign committee.
Even as Congress president Rahul Gandhi extended his support to Mamata Banerjee in the CBI vs Kolkata Police ruckus, Bengal Congress MP from Behramopore Adhir Chowdhury wondered why Mamata Banerjee was throwing such a fit because CBI wanted to investigate Kolkata's top police officer.
He said that the Congress wanted the Chit Fund scam investigated and it’s imperative that the CBI find the guilty and punish them. He rued that the CBI investigation hadn’t gone as fast as planned.
He said he wouldn’t comment on the legality of CBI raiding the Kolkata Police Commissioner, that was best left to the courts, he wondered why Mamata was so worried.
He said: “CBI went to a police commissioner's house. Why is Mamata worried about this police officer? The only logical explanation is that the police officer did work on behalf of Mamata and she’s worried that if the CBI asks questions, she will get caught.”
Raising more questions about a Mahagatbandhan, he said Mamata Banerjee was trying to destroy Congress in the party and was jailing Congress workers on fake cases.

Political analysts feel that Chowdhury was removed as West Bengal Congress Pradesh Congress president for his staunch anti-Mamata Banerjee view. While Chowdhury had been pushing for an alliance with the Left Front in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he raised questions each time the Congress' central leadership tilted towards the Trinamool Congress.
