Chhattisgarh Encounter: All you need to know about the Naxal attack that left 22 jawans martyred
Director-General of CRPF Kuldiep Singh said that there was absolutely no intelligence or operational failure in the operation.
Tragedy struck our security forces on Saturday (April 3) when atleast 22 jawans got martyred and 31 were wounded in deadly four-hour encounter with Naxals along the border between Bijapur and Sukma districts in Chhattisgarh.
A “U-type” ambush was carried out by maoists in Bijapur district after luring security personnel into a trap with the input of the possible presence of a top Maoist commander, an official by quoted as saying by HT.
“Separate joint teams of security forces, over 2,000 in number, had launched a major anti-Naxal operation from Bijapur and Sukma districts in the South Bastar forests, considered as the Maoist stronghold, on Friday night,” state’s Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) OP Pal said.

Personnel belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) jointly launched the operation against Naxals from five places – Tarrem, Usoor and Pamed (Bijapur) and Minpa and Narsapuram (Sukma).

According to security forces, 15 Naxals were killed and 20 got injured in the operation.

It is learnt that the Naxal commander Hidma is suspected to be involved in the gruesome attack. According to sources, after top Naxal Commander Hidma’s movement in Bijapur last month, security forces were on high alert.
Hidma is top naxal commander and carries a reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head. Hidma had led many major operations against the security forces in Bastar. He is also suspected to be behind the March,2017 attack in Sukma district of Chattisgarh in which 25 CRPF personnel were martyred.

India’s Home Minister Amit Shah cut short an election rally in the east on Monday (April 5) to head to Chhattisgarh. Shah and Chief Minister Bhupesh Bhagel laid wreaths on the coffins of 14 security personnel killed in the attack here.
Shah told reporters the government will "not tolerate such bloodshed and a befitting response will be given to put an end to the ongoing battle with Maoists”.
