In a good news for 7.47 lakh tea garden workers in Assam, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday disbursed Rs 3,000 to each of the 7.47 lakh tea garden workers in the state. The total allocation by Modi government under this scheme is Rs 224 crore. Addressing a programme, Sitharaman said that before 2014 Lok Sabha general election, PM Modi had wished to work for the upliftment of tea garden workers and this is the reason why several schemes were launched after the NDA came to power.
1. Assam Chah Bagicha Dhan Puraskar Mela Scheme

The additional amount of Rs 3,000 each will be credited to the bank accounts of 7,46,667 workers as part of the third tranche of the flagship scheme.
2. What Sitharaman said?

Sitharaman said, "All middlemen have been eliminated with introduction of the DBT mode in various schemes and the Centre will continue to support tea gardens in Assam in future. PM Modi favoured using technology for the benefit of people while implementing the schemes and so the concept of DBT was introduced. Due to this, middlemen were totally eliminated and the benefits reached directly to the beneficiaries."
3. Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma makes this announcement

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government would take steps aimed at increasing the minimum wages of tea garden workers in the state within 10 days. According to Sarma, the proposal to raise the minimum wages of the tea garden workers would be finalised in the next Cabinet meeting.
4. ‘Asom Mala’

PM Modi laid the foundation stone of two hospitals and launched ‘Asom Mala’, a programme for state highways and major district roads, on Sunday. ‘Asom Mala’ has been started in line with ‘Bharat Mala Project.”
