Personnel Ministry has released an order asking all all central government employees to attend office on working days.

In a significant development, Personnel Ministry has released an order asking all all central government employees to attend office on working days. The Centre passed the order keeping in mind the significant decline in the number of active COVID-19 cases in India. The order, however, clarified that officers and staff residing in containment zones will not have to attend office till their containment zone is de-notified by government authorities.

Notably, officers of the level of Under Secretary and above were coming to office due to the restrictions imposed by the Centre in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

In May, the Centre had asked 50 percent of its employees below the level of Deputy Secretary to work from their offices.

The order said that all biometric attendance will remain suspended until further orders.

“The government servants at all levels are to attend office on all working days without any exemption to any category of employees”, said the order issued late Saturday to all the central government departments.

The Personnel Ministry said that “all departmental canteens may be opened”.
