At Kamal Nath's oath-taking ceremony, 'mama' Shivraj wins hearts

The swearing-in ceremony in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh saw a glimpse of rare courtesy and grace in politics as BJP leaders graced the events with smiles and hugs.

BJP's Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the three-time Chief Minister of the state, took an active part in the event to pass the baton to his Congress successor. Invited on stage, the 59-year-old, who had been fondly called "Mama" by the people of the state, was photographed with his successor and Jyotiraditya Scindia, their linked arms raised in jubilation. Besides Chouhan, two other former Chief Minister from the BJP - Kailash Joshi and Babulal Gaur - were also present on the stage.

BJP leader and outgoing chief minister Vasundhara Raje greeted Congress leaders and newly appointed CM Ashok Gehlot and his deputy Sachin Pilot at their oath ceremony. Raje shared stage with the leaders of various political parties and shook hands with Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Gehlot's oath-taking was attended by outgoing chief minister Vasundhara Raje and NCP's chief Sharad Pawar, TDP's supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, NC president Farooq Abdullah and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, JDS president and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's (JMM's) Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) leader Babulal Marandi among others. DMK president M K Stalin, who had on Sunday proposed the name of Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate of the proposed anti-BJP front, was also there at the ceremony.

Newly sworn-in Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel with former CM Raman Singh during the oath-taking ceremony in Raipur on Monday. Baghel became the third person to be the chief minister of the state. Prior to him, Raman Singh had served as CM in the BJP government for three consecutive terms starting from 2003.

The oath-taking ceremony of Baghel was attended by AICC general secretary Mallikarjun Kharge, Rajasthan CM Gehlot, Pilot, Puducherry CM V Narayansamy, MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Abdullah and Loktantrik Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav, among others.
