Delhi: 5 persons die of COVID-19 every hour, health ministry data shows

An analysis based on a date from the Union Health Ministry showed that at least five persons died due to COVID-19 every hour on an average in Delhi in the last 24 hours, accounting for the largest chunk of such fatalities across the country. Delhi recorded an average of 21 deaths in this period.

While a total of 511 COVID-19 deaths were recorded across the country in the past 24 hours, Delhi accounted for the largest chunk of such fatalities with 121 fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed, according to a PTI report.

Delhi recorded 4,454 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday and a positivity rate of 11.94 per cent while 121 more fatalities pushed the death count to 8,512, authorities said.

This relatively low number of fresh cases came out of the 37,307 tests conducted on Sunday, including 18,046 RT-PCR tests, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

India reported 44,059 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s total tally to 91,39,866, while 511 fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,33,738. There are 4,43,486 active cases of coronavirus in the country at present, while 85,62,642 people have recovered from the disease.
