After spending two nights in Jodhpur Central Jail, Bollywood actor Salman Khan was released from today. The actor, who has been sentenced to five years in prison in the 1998 black buck poaching case, was granted bail by a Jodhpur court earlier today.
District and Sessions Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi, who was transferred by the Registrar General of the High Court in a late night order, allowed Khan's plea for bail and suspension of sentence so that he can file an appeal against his conviction and sentencing.
Salman was on Thursday convicted of having shot and killed blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the night of October 1, 1998 during the shooting of the film "Hum Saath Saath Hain".
While convicting Salman, the trial court acquitted his Bollywood colleagues Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre and a local, Dushyant Singh, giving them the "benefit of doubt" for the incident in October 1998.
Khan has been granted bail on a bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of like amount, Defence counsel Mahesh Bora said.
