Indian troops clashed with the Chinese army personnel in Ladakh's Galwan Valley on Monday due to a situation that escalated into an unprecedented border crisis between the two countries.
Government sources said nearly 20 soldiers from the India side lost their lives and the number is likely to rise, The Chinese side has suffered a similar number of casualties in the incident, sources said.

"During the de-escalation process in the Galwan Valley, a violent face-off took place last night with casualties. The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer and two soldiers. Senior military officials of the two sides are currently meeting at the venue to defuse the situation," the Army said in their official statement.
Around 20 Indian soldiers killed in the violent face-off with China in Galwan valley in Eastern Ladakh. Casualty numbers could rise, says government sources. This includes one colonel rank officer and two jawans reported earlier. The Chinese side has also suffered similar number of casualties.
On late-evening and night of June 15, a violent face-off happened as a result of an attempt by Chinese side to unilaterally change status quo there. Both sides suffered casualties that could have been avoided had agreement at higher level been scrupulously followed by Chinese side: MEA
