The section 144 of the Indian Penal Code, which prohibits assembly of five or more people in an area where it has been imposed, has been imposed in Rajasthan's Jaipur and Bharatpur, Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal and Uttarakhand's Nainital.

A nation-wide shutdown has been called by some outfits today against the caste-based reservation in jobs and education today.

On April 2, the nation-wide strike across the country turned violent after agitators resorted to stone pelting, damaging public properties and blocking rail and road traffic movements.

Violent protests were reported from various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat, and Punjab, and in all over 10 people died in the violence.

    The government and private offices and schools too functioned without any hinderance.

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday issued an advisory to all states to take necessary precautionary measures in the view of Bandh called for Tuesday.

    The MHA, in its advisory said, "MHA has advised the states to beef up security and make appropriate arrangements to prevent any untoward incident, including issue of prohibitory orders, if necessary. It has asked for intensification of patrolling in all sensitive locations so as to prevent any loss of life or damage to property."

    Section 144 has been imposed in Jaipur. No procession or dharna is allowed. 

    Commissioner of Jaipur Police, Sanjay Aggarwal said, action will be taken if someone is found to be indulged in the same. Adequate security forces have been deployed.
