Just last week, Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West announced the arrival of their third child born via a surrogate. The couple who already have two children, daughter North and son Saint, named their youngest daughter Chicago. Reportedly, Kanye has deep ties with the city of Chicago as that’s where he was raised by his mother and the singer has also referenced the city in his music in the past. They are not the only ones. Here are some other stars who named their children after cities and countries.

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky — India

In 2012, the Avengers star and his wife welcomed a baby girl whom they named India Rose. Chris explained at the time, that it was just a name that they liked. While he wanted Indie or Indiana for a boy, Elsa chose India for a girl.

David and Victoria Beckham — Brooklyn

David and Victoria named their oldest child Brooklyn after the borough in New York. Posh had liked the name Brooke for a girl, and when she found out she was having a son, she thought of Brooklyn. She also favoured the place for its multi- cultural environment. Coincidentally, she was in New York when she found out that she was pregnant.

Michael Jackson — Paris

The late King of Pop named his daughter who was born in 1998, Paris, after the European city.  Debbie Rowe, his then wife, said she was named so, as she was conceived in Paris.

Shakira and Gerard Piqué — Milan

The singer gave birth to her first child, son Milan Piqué Mebarak, in 2013. While Milan refers to the Italian city, Shakira liked the name for its meaning of “dear, loving and gracious” in Slavic.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz — Egypt

Alicia and hubby Swizz became parents to a boy in 2010 whom they named Egypt. The singer said that Egypt held a close place in her heart as she had made a solo trip there when she was close to a breakdown. When she found out she was pregnant, it was her husband who suggested naming their child after the country.

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth — Tennessee

Back in 2012, Reese and husband Jim became parents to a son who they named Tennessee. The name is said to be a tribute to the actress’ south heritage. Though she’s never spoken about the meaning behind the name, Reese was raised in Nashville, Tennessee.
