Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama award at Golden Globes 2020
2019 was the year when the world witnessed Joaquin Phoenix as the new actor who could pull off a role like the iconic Joker. He was even compared to the legendary Heath Ledger many-a-times, and he won the 'Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama' award at Golden Globes 2020.
Joaquin Phoenix has also come into limelight over his award-winning speech, which too, has been compared to Joker. While receiving the award, he stated, "Some of you I reached out to personally, some I'm still intimidated by (whispers: although we share the same agent)."
Talking to his director Todd Philips, Joaquin began, "You were such an amazing friend and collaborator who convinced me to do this movie. You urged me to give everything and be sincere. I'm such a pain in the ass, I cannot believe you put up with me. I'm so indebted to you."
After taking his fiance Rooney Mara's name next, Phoenix stated, "Contrary to popular belief, I don't want to rock the boat, but the boat (censored) fucking needs to be rocked."
He then went on to talk about Australia and mentioned, "It is so nice that so many people sent their well-wishes to Australia," adding, "But we need to be more than that. It's such a beautiful gesture. I haven't been such a virtuous man. I'm learning so much and so many in this room have given me the opportunity to try to get it right. I'm deeply grateful."
Phoenix then went on to talk about some changes celebrities could make in their lifestyle, by probably making lesser use of private jets. He said, "But I think together hopefully we could be unified and actually make changes. It's great to vote, but sometimes we have to take that responsibility on ourselves and make changes and sacrifices in our own lives. I hope we can do that. We don't have to take private jets for Palm Springs. Please."
As the music played, Joaquin Phoenix concluded the speech by saying, "I will try to do better and I hope you too. Thank you so much for putting up with me. I'm so grateful for this night and all of you."
