It's been more than seven years since we saw Robert Downey Jr play Sherlock Holmes. After Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows came out, director Guy Ritchie and RDJ himself had talked about the third movie in the franchise. But since, it felt like no progress was made in that direction.

Then in 2016, a Variety report revealed that Warner Bros hired an army of writers to come up with the script for the sleuth's adventures.

This writers' room, responsible for reshaping one of the Arthur Conan Doyle's stories, comprises of Nicole Perlman of Guardians of the Galaxy, Justin Malen of Baywatch, Gary Whitta of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Geneva Dworet-Robertson of Tomb Raider, and Kieran Fitzgerald of Snowden.

The report also said that Jude Law will be reprising his role of Dr John Watson and Guy Ritchie coming back to helm the project.

Then everything went silent on that front until RDJ in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly talked about his future projects apart from his duties in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

RDJ revealed that his producer wife Susan Downey has taken charge of their production company, Team Downey, to produce The Voyage of Doctor Doolittle. He also talked about '40 additional challenges,' adding, "I’m having a good time, though I decided to give myself, like, 40 additional challenges, like a Welsh accent — which even Welsh people say is hard to do. Then there’s all this stuff down the pike. We’re looking at another Sherlock Holmes, we’re developing Perry Mason for HBO. I still want to do Pinocchio."

Seems a lot to take on after having shot Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled fourth Avengers movie back to back. He is currently working on Doolittle. Therefore talking about taking a break, he said, "When I’m done with this, if you hear I’m not taking a break, call me and tell me I’m crazy."
