The 2020 Academy Awards were without a host for the second year in a row but actors Chris Rock and Steve Martin made sure to use their comic timing during their non-monologue monologue. The actors in their script not only pointed out the absence of female nominees in the best director category but also poked fun at Amazon honcho Jeff Bezos.

Commenting on the lack of diversity and inclusion of females, Chris said, "There’s something missing this year" after which they both filled in the blank with, "Vaginas". For the uninitiated, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women was up for the best picture, however, no other women were included this year in the category of best director.

The duo also joked about Oscars not having a host anymore blaming Twitter for it. They later also pulled Amazon chief Jeff Bezos’ leg, saying how he is still the world’s richest man despite his divorce. "He saw Marriage Story and thought it was a comedy," Chris said.

Meanwhile, at the 2020 Oscars red carpet, actress Natalie Portman made a bold statement donning a black and gold Dior Haute Couture outfit with a special touch. The dress was embroidered in gold lettering on her cape with the last name of the female directors who were not nominated for their films, Scafaria, Wang, Gerwig, Diop, Heller, Matsoukas, Har'el and Sciamma.

According to reports, in the history of the coveted Academy Awards, only five directors have been nominated so far in the best director category namely Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker, Lina Wertmuller for Seven Beauties, Jane Campion for The Piano, Sofia Coppola for Lost in Translation, and Greta for Lady Bird.
