About a year back, Priyanka Chopra Jonas during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show had announced that she will be seen playing the role of former spokesperson of the Rajneesh movement, Ma Anand Sheela. The actor had said, "We're developing it as the character of Sheela, who was this guru who originated from India, [Osho's] right-hand woman. And she was just devious and created a whole cult in America, brought people here."

Now as per reports in Hollywood Reporter, the film is confirmed on cards and is set to be an Amazon flick. Titled Sheela, the film will be directed by Barry Levinson and written by Nick Yarborough. Barry will also be producing the film under his home banner Baltimore Pictures with Permut Presentations’ David Permut, Jason Sosnoff and Priyanka's production house Purple Pebble Pictures.

Earlier PeeCee had also said, "[The doc] was amazing, and I'm developing that next for me to star in and produce, which I think would be really cool."

She also shared, "I have to credit director Barry Levinson for bringing this movie to me. He will be directing the project. He and his producers have been researching on this subject and developing it for the last few years. He approached me to develop it with him."

Meanwhile, Ma Anand Sheela had claimed that she wants Alia Bhatt to play her role. To which the actor had said, "If Ma Anand Sheela feels I'm worthy to play her part, I'd feel very very honoured and grateful. Hopefully, if that film is made I'd be very very happy to play it."
