Hollywood star Kristen Stewart recently spoke about her sexuality and said there was a period of time in her life when she felt 'cagey' about it.

The 30-year-old star, who rose to fame with the 'Twilight' series, was a talking point in the media back when she was dating actor Robert Pattinson. The longtime couple, who likely started dating in 2009, split shortly before the final franchise instalment, "Breaking Dawn — Part 2," was released in 2012.

Speaking about her sexuality and opening up on her past relationship in the November issue of InStyle magazine, Kristen said, "The first time I ever dated a girl, I was immediately being asked if I was a lesbian. And it's like, 'God, I'm 21 years old.' I felt like maybe there were things that have hurt people I've been with. Not because I felt ashamed of being openly gay but because I didn't like giving myself to the public, in a way. It felt like such thievery. This was a period of time when I was sort of cagey."

Talking about Pattinson, she continued, "Even in my previous relationships, which were straight, we did everything we could to not be photographed doing things — things that would become not ours."

"So I think the added pressure of representing a group of people, of representing queerness, wasn't something I understood then. Only now can I see it. But back then I would have been like, "No, I'm fine. My parents are fine with it. Everything's fine." That's bullshit. It's been hard. It's been weird. It's that way for everyone," Kristen added.

Previously, while speaking about her relationship with Pattinson on "The Howard Stern Show", Kristen had said, "We were together for years. That was, like, my first, you know (love)," she said.

Before that, in a Harpers Bazar UK interview, Kristen had said, "When me and Rob were together, we did not have an example to go by." "So much was taken from us that, in trying to control one aspect, we were just like, 'No, we will never talk about it. Never. Because it's ours.'"

Meanwhile, in the InStyle November issue, Kristen also spoke about feeling the expectation for her to be a spokesperson for the community since she plays a queer person in 'Happiest Season', Kristen said, "I did more when I was younger when I was being hounded about labelling myself. I had no reticence about displaying who I was. I was going out every day knowing I'd be photographed while I was being affectionate with my girlfriend, but I didn't want to talk about it. I did feel enormous pressure, but it wasn't put on me by the [LGBTQ+] community."

"People were seeing those pictures and reading these articles and going, "Oh, well, I need to be shown." I was a kid, and I felt personally affronted. Now I relish it. I love the idea that anything I do with ease rubs off on somebody who is struggling. That shit's dope! When I see a little kid clearly feeling themselves in a way that they wouldn't have when I grew up, it makes me skip."

As per reports, the first girl Kristen was linked to was Alicia Cargile. They were together for about two years, from 2014 until 2016. Kristen Stewart had straight relationships with David and Pattinson (2009 to 2013), Michael Angarano (2005 - 2009) and the late Anton Yelchin (2004).
