Scottish actor Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, the actor's family confirmed to BBC News. His son Jason informed that the actor was unwell since a long time. He said that the veteran actor died peacefully in his sleep in Nassau, Bahamas. It is one of the places where James Bond films were widely shot.
"A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor," Jason said. Connery's publicist Nancy Seltzer said, "There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial yet to be planned once the virus has ended."
Sir Sean is best remembered for playing James Bond. Being the first actor to have played the suave character, Connery played the role in seven long films.
The actor made his first appearance in the Bond film 'Dr No' which released in 1962. The character was inspired by Ian Fleming's book.
Sir Sean Connery has won an Oscar, two Bafta Awards and three Golden Globes Awards. The actor received his first Oscar award in 1988, as the best supporting actor for his role as an Irish cop in 'The Untouchables'.
Having worked in Hollwyood for many decades, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000. He had first worked on the 1957 British gangster film 'No Road Back'.
Co-incidentally Sir Sean Connery turned 90-year-old on August 25 this year. The deadly COVID-19 forced him to have a lockdown birthday. The reason for his demise is yet unknown.
He is also remembered for his roles in 'The Hunt for Red October', 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' and 'The Rock'.
After Sir Sean Connery, six actors played the role of James Bond, the latest being Daniel Craig. 'No Time To Die', all set to release soon, will be the last movie that Craig would appear in. It would also introduce the new James Bond.
Sir Sean Connery is survived by his wife Micheline and sons Jason and Stephane.
