Sport and Cinema are two of the world’s favorite past times. Sometimes, they even go hand in hand. Oh and let’s admit it, when sport and cinema do combine, the result is an unmatched adrenaline rush! Here’s a list of some of the most loved Sports Movies that you just cannot afford to miss!

RUSH

Set on the most memorable time of Formula 1 racing in the 1970’s, this film is based on the true story of a great sporting rivalry between James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth), a cocky and talented playboy with a hot head, and Niki Lauda ( Daniel Bruhl), a perfectionist who understands racing better than anything else. The story follows their distinctly different personal styles on and off the track, their love life and the mind-boggling 1976 season in which both drivers were willing to risk everything to become world champion.

FIRE IN BABYLON

Fire in Babylon is a truly authentic celebratory romp through modern Caribbean history. The film depicts the transformation of the West Indies cricket team, from pushovers to world-beaters. Within it all is an underlying theme of the fight against racism and the fight for equality. Shedding light on Clive Lloyd’s team that dominated the sport from 1970 – 80, the film focuses on how cricket was used as a tool to galvanize the Caribbean islands.

MONEYBALL

Moneyball is possibly the most iconic Baseball movie ever made. The film revolves around the life of Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) who is the manager at Oakland Athletics.  Understanding that his team doesn’t have the money power to compete with the bigger sides in the league, he opts to use an alternate approach towards building a winning team. Using unconventional strategies and a nerdy Economic major, Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), they work on a number-based system in order to pick players that deliver results and don’t just conform to the status-quo of being good. Together they assemble a team of has-been’s and would-be’s and lead them to success. Through this, Beane launches a new way for the MLB and everyone in it to judge the value of players.

THE BLIND SIDE

The blind side is a warm film that puts light on a homeless African-American youngster from a broken home, Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) who is fostered by the Touhys, a well-to-do white family. However, Oher soon becomes a part of their family despite his differences. In his new home, he faces several new challenges but the Touhys not only help him overcome the challenges off the field but on it as well. At the same time, Oher’s presence in the Touhys lives leads them to some insightful self-discoveries of their own and helps the family grow closer together.

BORG VS MCENROE

Borg vs McEnroe is an eventful feature that brings light to the one of the biggest Tennis rivalries- Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe. It mainly focuses on the 1980 Wimbledon Championship that changed the sport and the players for good. Borg was the cool and disciplined one, while McEnroe was the profane American hothead. In all the differences in personalities, they had 1 goal in common, winning that Wimbledon trophy. As AO Scott from the NY Times puts it, “Borg vs. McEnroe is a modest, tactful movie about two
guys who, at their peak, were neither.” So how did the 1980 Wimbledon pan out for these two legends? To find out, tune in on May 19 at 9:00PM on only on Star
