The recently-concluded film festival sparked much hair and make-up inspo for the months to come
Over the past two weeks, a bevy of beauties brought their A-game to the South of France for the prestigious film event. Like every year the glam factor was amped up, and the looks did not disappoint. Amongst the couture gowns and diamond dripping bling, one spotted several noteworthy hair and make-up trends.
Stella Maxwell twirled her blonde tresses into a double bun do. The model’s choice of hairstyle was reminiscent of the traditional chignon with a cool twist. She kept her make-up subtle with a soft pink pout and smokey eyes. Clint Fernandes, make-up expert says her updo adds an edgy element. “She’s given it an unkempt, messy bun feel which softens the look. It’s very fashion forward.”
Sara Sampaio went for an old school Hollywood look with side-parted tresses styled in waves and secured in a low pony. She played up her pout with a vampy plum hue and kept the rest of her make-up clean. “She’s given a youthful spin to the classic wavy do. The strong lip and nude eyes adds a fresh appeal,” opines Clint.
Bella Hadid played around with big ’80s style curls on the red carpet. For this particular event, she pulled her hair back in a ponytail and then secured the ringlets in a cool top bun. A fresh pink lip and a winged liner completed the look.
Joan Smalls knows the power of a bold red lip. The model opted for a glossy statement pout with her black gown. Light eye make-up and straight shiny strands tied back in a pony added to the sleek finish. Vipul Bhagat, make-up expert mentions red glossy lips don’t work with Indian skin tones. “It shouts a lot. Instead, go for a red lip and tone down the gloss,” he adds.
Lea Seydoux went for an edgy wet hair look, while styling her locks. A berry statement lip and a hint of metallic eyeshadow on the lids was all that was needed to elevate her look further. Slick hair looks neater and nicer, feels Vipul. “It helps your earrings pop and works well with middle-parted hair.”
Kristen Stewart showed off an edgy do with curled bangs and several bobby pins pinned on one side. She also rocked a metallic blue and grey eye and a pink lip. Metallic tones are very in, explains Clint. “It goes with the whole futuristic ’80s theme, that gives a glamorous day look. Kristen is a bit of a rebel and the pop of pink works well too,” he says.
Lupita Nyong’o opted for make-up colours in the same family with a darker lip, offset with a berry eye shadow and black liner. She styled her natural curls in an elaborate updo.
Amber Heard rocked the classic red lips and cat eyeliner do on the red carpet. For a cool touch, the actress sported a crystal sticker in the centre of her lower lashline. Meanwhile, her locks were held back in a classy chignon. A crystal stick-on is a cool way to highlight the eyes, says Vipul. It’s also a very modern look.
