Joel Schumacher, who switched from a costume designer into a director, passed away after a long battle with cancer. Aged 80, he breathed his last on Monday morning.
Jim Carrey, who worked in Joel Schumacher's 'Batman Forever', paid his tribute to the late director. "He saw deeper things in me than most and he lived a wonderfully creative and heroic life. I am grateful to have had him as a friend," tweeted Jim.

Joel Schumacher started off as a costume designer in 1970s and soon switched to production design. He took up writing in the late 70s before becoming one of the renowned Hollywood storytellers. He has directed actors like George Clooney and Arnola Schwarzenegger too.
He is credited for launching talents like Matthew McConaughey (with 'A Time To Kill'), Demi Moore (through 'St Elmo's Fire') and 'Phantom Of The Opera's Gerard Butler. Schumacher has also worked on high-profile music videos like 'The End Is The Beginning Is The End'. He had received the Distinguished Collaborator Award from the Costume Designers Guild in 2011.
