A young man in his twenties suddenly collapsed on Monday while working on his biceps at Gold's Gym located at Shivranjani crossroads.

He was rushed to a clinic next door where doctors declared him dead on arrival. It was later learnt that the young man had a history of heart ailment but had not disclosed this fact to the gym authorities.

Priyank Shah (name changed on request), 28, had been a regular at the gym for nearly two years but he never had a trainer appointed for himself.

"The incident took place at 7:30-8 pm on November 29 when Shah was working on his biceps," said the gym's manager. "He suddenly collapsed. Our trainers immediately gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation."

The manager said that a doctor called from the adjoining complex said Shah had suffered a heart attack. "We then immediately rushed him to Apollo Clinic (which is right next door) but the doctors there said he had died. In the meantime, we had also informed his family members."

A close relative said on the condition of anonymity that they had rushed to Apollo Clinic as soon as they heard of the incident. "We took him to another hospital in the hope that he could be revived but in vain," the relative said. "He was a regular at the gym and would visit it either in the morning or evening."

The gym manager said that Shah had had a heart operation six years back but had kept this fact hidden from the gym.

"He did not mention this important health detail to us while filling the form at the gym," the manager said.

"It was the doctors who told us about it. Generally, for such people, we take their doctor's advice on the kind of exercises they can do at the gym. We don't have an in-house doctor but a trainer is appointed for such members."

A senior police official said the police had received no complaint from the family members or from the gym management. "Therefore, we have no comments to offer on the incident," he said.
