The world’s first test-tube baby has paid tribute to the fertility pioneers, who gave her and millions of others life, as she turns 35.
The birth of Louise Brown caused controversy, with religious leaders expressing concern over the use of artificial methods after she was born at Oldham General Hospital on July 25, 1978.
Brown, whose parents Lesley and John had IVF treatment, spoke about reproductive biologist Robert Edwards to the publication, saying that so many people owe so much to his work, and that of gynaecologist Patrick Steptoe. She said that when she was born they all said it shouldn’t be done and that it was messing with God and nature, but it worked and obviously it was meant to be.
