Typhoid: Five safety precautions to lower the risk of the infection

Typhoid is an infectious disease caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria. High fever and other problems arise when it comes under its grip. The disease spreads by coming in contact with contaminated food, water or an infected person. Typhoid is caused by a bacterial infection in the digestive tract and bloodstream.

The symptoms of typhoid appear slowly. Generally, children suffer from typhoid fever during monsoons. An increase in water pollution can also cause waterborne diseases. After getting infected, its symptoms usually start within 6-30 days. Fever and red rash are the two main symptoms. Apart from this, other symptoms of the disease include weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, muscle cramps, sweating, diarrhea and abdominal swelling. If these symptoms are ignored then the situation can get worse. That's why it is important to know the preventive measures against typhoid.

Preventive measures

Although the typhoid vaccine is available in the market, it is not 100 percent effective. There are many other simple ways to prevent infection.

Drinking filtered water- One should avoid drinking contaminated water. It is possible that the water supply in your area is contaminated. So use filtered water for drinking.

Use fresh foods- Consume only fresh vegetables and foods. Do not store vegetables and foods for a long time. Wash it thoroughly before use.

Wash hands frequently- Bacteria and infections are removed from hands by cleaning hands. This method of cleaning helps in protecting you from many diseases.
