Police inspector Daulatram Jogawat was admitted to Saifee Hospital, Charni Road, at 12 am on Monday. The cop travelled from Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh to Mumbai to undergo a series of medical tests and consult bariatric surgeon Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, who is also treating the world’s heaviest woman, Eman Ahmed, who weighs 500 kg.

Speaking to DNA, Dr Lakdawala said that Jogawat had completed his tests, and the doctors are now waiting for the reports, which are expected on Tuesday. Jogawat underwent diabetes and hypertension tests, limb check-up and showed other health problems that he has been facing for a few years now.

“Once we determine his medical condition, we will know if bariatric surgery can help him or not,” said Dr Lakdawala.

Dr Lakdawala reached out to the police officer after his condition came to light due to an insensitive tweet by Shobha De and its ensuing controversy. De had posted the picture of the cop sitting on a chair with the tag line, “Heavy police Bandobast in Mumbai today!”

After news media outlets picked up the outrage to De’s tweet, the doctor had tweeted: “My dear friend I feel 4 u if u need medical help & think#bariatric surgery will help, pls count on me @MumbaiPolice even if u r from MP”
