The district, which is close to Mumbai, was in news last year because of several malnutrition deaths.

Health minister Dr Deepak Sawant today launched the drive in Vikramgad tehsil of the district.

"There will be a separate register for babies with serious malnutrition. Other babies will get a regular follow-up....The babies with serious malnutrition will get special attention," he said.

There will be a health check-up drive for pregnant women and the babies who are under five years old, the minister said.
