A new research has found that social media posts helps in losing weight and especially assists in maintaining it later in life.The research led by University of Carolina explained that people who are engaged with social media in the context of their weight loss do really well, but keeping them actively engaged in this can be a challenge.The team of researchers asked people to join weight loss Facebook groups where counsellors posted five different types of posts to each diet group each weekday for the maintenance period such by asking them their most challenging meal or sharing some healthy recipes and observed the response on it.

Hales, lead author said that their research findings showed that people engage with social media more if the messages, post or comments encourage them to focus on their weight loss goal.Hales added that more such research should be conducted to determine what differences might exist in social media support versus the traditional methods in clinical settings.
