Diabetes is an insulin disorder. Any discrepancy in the production or release of insulin from the pancreas can trigger diabetes. Apart from regular exercise and strict dieting, many other methods can be used to regulate blood sugar. Costus Igneus or insulin plant leaves can also help in controlling diabetes.

The insulin plant contains corosolic acid which is beneficial in the management of cough, cold, infection, lung diseases, and asthma.

Those with diabetes can also eat the leaves of the plant 6-7 times a day to get the benefit of the leaves in controlling blood sugar. However, patients must check with their doctors before eating any herbs.

Some health experts say these leaves can really help in diabetes management if taken daily for a day. These can also be taken in the form of powder.

These leaves also have protein, anti-oxidants, iron, b keratin, and corosolic acid -- these substances are thought to be beneficial in diabetes management.

A sugar patient must include whole grain, oats, toned milk, curd, buttermilk, and fibrous vegetables in their diet.
