'Luv Ka The End' is peppy and enjoyable

Mostly appealing to the college going crowd, LKTE might just be downright unbearable for the others. We recommend this one if you're in the mood for a mindless watch.

'Luv Ka The End' is peppy and enjoyable
Film: Luv Ka The End (U/A)
Cast: Shraddha Kapoor, Taaha Shah, Pushtiie Shakti, Sreejita Dey
Director: Bumpy
Rating: ***

After Yashraj Films’ Band Baaja Baarat became an unexpected hit last year, faith in the banner’s forthcoming films was rekindled. Now, Yashraj’s youth start-up Y-Films has come up with its first offering Love Ka The End (LKTE) with an aim to please the young audience.

LKTE takes us to the corridors of St Paul’s Junior College and bedrooms of snobbish teens, who only hang out in groups of three (we wonder why?). There are the good girls, the bad girls and the ugly boys. One cannot help but feel the shadow of Hollywood teenage drama Mean Girls on this one.

The director's name Bumpy is apt to describe this ride that has a few jokes that crack you up and some just fall flat on their face.

Rhea (Kapoor), Jugs (Shakti) and Sonia (Dey) are the good angels. While Rhea is quite a catch prize of the college, Luv Nanda (Shah) is the hunk, punk, spoilt brat and member of the Billionaire Boys Club. Besides his dad’s money, Luv’s ticket to popularity is the points he gets for going to different “levels” with his dates. When Rhea finds out she’s only a pawn to earn points, she resolves “not to get mad but get even”. How original! Wonder where we heard that oen before (Hint: John Tucker Must Die).

What follows is a night of harmless revenge, creating situations that are sometimes funny and most of the times bland. However, the slick packaging is sure to grip the target audience. The director, it seems, has dumbed down the script intentionally for the target audience. Chances are, you might snooze off during some bits of the film, however, if you put on your teenage shoes, you might just enjoy the film.

Kapoor is definitely good and delivers a confident, lively performance. Shah is charming but not very impressive. The funny and unapologetic Jugs, popular for her title role in romantic comedy TV serial Mahi Way is the best among the 'friend' lot. Sonia, Kartikeyan, Timmy, Gollu, little sister Minty are all gems in their own right. The story may be too simplistic (and illogical) to the point of being hollow, but the presentation cannot be ignored. The music score is upbeat and the catchy title song and ‘Mutton’ song is memorable. Even though most of the roles are stock Hollywood characters, the unsteady and immature nature of the urban, up-market young generation is captured well.

Peppy and conversational dialogue, relatable instances and a lot of madness make LKTE an enjoyable chick flick. Mostly appealing to the college going crowd, LKTE might just be downright unbearable for the others. We recommend this one if you're in the mood for a mindless watch.
