We must commend director Dinesh Babu, for his films have brought back the flavour of situational comedies to Sandalwood. What used to be a staple diet back in the 80s and 90s seem to be a rarity today.

Mathondu Maduvena, the sequel to last year’s hit Eradane Maduve, shows promise of bringing back memories of the Ganesha and Golmaal series that featured Ananth Nag.The film features almost the same cast, barring Prem who’s replaced by Naveen Krishna.

The story manages to hold your attention right through. It starts off with the wedding of the eldest daughter of Ananth Nag and Suhasini, and proves to be a complete laugh riot — with some interesting twists and turns too.

Nag and Suhasini play the perfect anchors, while Naveen Krishna’s impressive comic timing shows why he’s the first option while casting for such a role. There is a chemistry that’s hard to miss in the odd pairing — Sharan and Thara. Their gags play a vital role in the script. Jennifer Kotwal, who played temptress in the first part, does a little cameo too, thereby adding to the comedy of errors.

Doubting and autocratic wives will always continue to provide great fodder for good comedy. And scripts like these can work as textbooks to aspiring scriptwriters and directors. With this film managing to strike that right chord, we wonder if there’d be a part three as well.
