'Dangal' Review: Aamir Khan makes you chuckle and tear up alternately throughout the film, a MUST watch!

It's easy to make a film on cricket because it is such a popular sport. What possessed Aamir Khan to take up a role of an aging, overweight, retired wrestler is something only he can explain, but the fact that he played the part, proves that he doesn't care about how box-office friendly it is, as long as it has the right emotion. And that Dangal has in abundance. Dangal is based on the life of wrester Mahavir Singh Phogat – the man who popularized wrestling for women. It was his dream to win a gold for his country at an international event. When he couldn't, he dreamt the same for his son. But he had four daughters and one day he decided: "Gold is gold. Whether a son brings it or a daughter." That's what Dangal is – about a father's dream and its eventual realization.

Dangal has all the ingredients of a great sports film and the fact that it is based on a real life story will make you chuckle and tear up alternately throughout the film. Aamir Khan has been associated with quality cinema for decades now and with Dangal, the legacy continues. Aamir delivers a career best performance. From a first-time disappointed father of a baby girl to the jubilant one much later, you will feel every emotion the Mahavir Singh on the screen does. The scene where the senior wrester gets into the ring and struggles to beat his own, and perhaps most favourite, student will remain with you for days.
Sakshi Tanwar is brilliant as Mahavir's wife. Director Nitish Tiwari draws award-worthy performances from his entire cast, many of who are facing the camera for the first time. At the end of the day, what works about Dangal is that it is a story about people and not the sport. The sets, locations, dialogues, the Haryanvi style of speaking, the costumes every department has contributed to making Dangal the delightful movie-going experience.​
What's not:
The only issue I have with the film is the length. It drags a bit in the second half and maybe 15-20 minutes shorter would have made Dangal better.
What to do:
End the year with this fantastic film.
