'A...Aa' review: You'll fall in love with Nithiin Reddy, Samantha Ruth Prabhu in this rom-com
Nithiin Reddy and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in A...Aa Anasuya Ramalingam vs Anand Vihari

Film: A...Aa Anasuya Ramalingam vs Anand Vihari
Cast: Nithiin Reddy, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Anupama Parameswaran
Director: Trivikram Srinivas

What it's about

Ace director Trivikram Srinivas comes back to the big screen with a romantic comedy in 2016. Starring Nithiin Reddy and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the movie is a simple love story with the rich girl poor-boy theme but with a twist. Anasuya Ramalingam (Samantha) has everything in the world but she also has a businesswoman mom (Nadiya) whom she is terrified of. Her mom arranges her marriage without Anasuya's consent and she tries to commit suicide. Anasuya's dad tries to help her live a happy life and when her mother goes out of town sends her to her aunt's place in the village. It is on this journey that she meets Anand Vihari for the first time. When she spends time with her aunt and family she understands what a happy family is. She and Anand fall for each other but don't express their love openly. But her aunt and Anasuya's mom have not been on talking terms for years. Suddenly her mom finds out that Anasuya knows her aunt and cousins. What happens next? Does Anasuya's mom allow her to marry Anand or is she forced to have an arranged marriage?

What's good

A...Aa is a beautiful and simple love story that is told in a visually appealing manner. Nithiin and Samantha have essayed their roles very well and it's perhaps one of their best performances to date. This film is Samantha's first comedy so to say and she has got the timing down pat. Her dubbing is also very professional in this movie. Anupama Parmeswaran and Nadiya really have lived their roles in the film. The first half of the film is light and breezy and you fall in love with both the lead actors. The humour that director Trivikram Srinivas has infused in the film is more subtle than loud and that's what makes the film enjoyable. The cinematography, especially during the songs, reminds you of some Mani Ratnam films. Nataraj Subramaniam has given the audience visuals that stay in your mind long after you leave the theatre. As far the songs go, 'Rang De' stood out but the others didn't make a mark.

What's not

Despite all the positives, it's in the second half that the film falters. The movie starts to slow down and the age-old rich girl-poor boy drama jars a little. For instance, there is a baddie who kidnaps Samantha and Nithiin comes to the rescue. This is a little cliched and the director could have taken a different turn.

What to do

A...Aa a film that adds humour to a regular boy-girl romance which should be seen to be experienced. Samantha and Nithiin's performances in this movie will be what people will rave about for days to come.
