Zoya Akhtar calls a spade a spade

I see a lot of myself in my daughter Zoya. While she has a logical mind, she does think out of the box. She does not get easily swayed by others’ opinions. Zoya does ask me for my opinions and takes them seriously, but she usually makes her own decisions. She comes to her own conclusions in life and sticks by them. I must confess, I am not as transparent and straightforward as she is. There is another amazing trait in her—she never lies. Right from when she was a child, Zoya calls a spade a spade. She also has a strong sense of objectivity but you’d never see her give in to arguments, just so she can maintain peace. She puts forward what she thinks is right, but you will never see her make an issue out of it. Zoya makes me extremely proud and happy.”As told to Subhash K Jha
