With recession looming large, multiple producers and channels are suffering. Yash Raj Films is no exception. The ace production house of the Indian film industry which was planning to launch its television channel soon has been hit very badly. If sources are to be believed, plans for the upcoming channel have allegedly been kept on hold for the moment.

With a lot of national and international players launching their TV channels, Yash Raj too got interested in the field which has been minting money for some. With their mettle proved in the big screen arena, expanding the horizon to the small screen seemed to be the obvious next step.

After a lot of planning, YRF got a team in place last year and they were exploring options for creating content for the big launch. In fact, they had plans to launch it in early 2009. However, it’s common knowledge that a string of flops has already hit the numero uno position of the production house very badly (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi becoming a hit is just an exception).

“The mounting losses and the economy experiencing a crisis seemed to be just a truly unfavourable condition for a new launch. The production house is busy pulling up its socks and wants to concentrate on creating better films which can recreate the magic of the banner for the moment. To top it all, the recession seemed to be the last blow. So after multiple meetings, the plans for the channel launch have been kept on hold for an indefinite period. It might be revived when situation becomes better,” the source explained.
