The X Line

Picture a narrow waist as the meeting point for long legs and arms a la supermodel Cara Delevingne or closer home actress Anushka Sharma who has an athletic body shape. In South Korea, the X-Line is a hit with young girls in high school and college.

The V Line

Characterised by a slim and oval face narrowing towards the chin comes a close second in the popularity stakes. A smaller face is considered beautiful in South Korea. In fact, Korean women and models often pose with their fists or make peace-sign hands in front of their face, to create the illusion of having a smaller face. Actresses like Nicole Kidman, and closer home actresses Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri fit the bill.

The U Line

Emma Watson showcased this body type in a low cut dress with pants underneath at the recently held Golden Globes awards night. The U-line emphasises the shape of a woman’s back when she wears a daring low-cut dress. Actresses like Sonam Kapoor and Shruti Haasan fit the bill.

The S Line

One of the most desirable body shapes defined by ample breasts and buttocks when viewed from the side scores high when it comes to being the most coveted shape. Celebs like Kim Kardashian and actress Shilpa Shetty are perfect examples of the S-Line.

The B Line

A big bust and stomach is a marked feature of this body shape. Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson and Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha carry off this look really well.

The O-Line

One of the least desired body shapes among South Koreans. O stands for obese. Actress Huma Qureshi would probably make it to this list.

The D-Line

It is often used to described a pregnant lady or a woman having a pregnant looking stomach.

More about Alphabetisation
It has been claimed that a weight-loss drink first used the X waist in its marketing campaign back in 2008, and the trend picked up since then. While it’s mostly women who are categorised according to Alphabetisation, men are often slotted as M-line for having six-pack abs.
