The second season of True Detective, starring Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly, will premiere June 21 on HBO.

The new season of the Nic Pizzolatto drama sees a bizarre murder unite three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in California, said the Hollywood Reporter.

Farrell stars as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vaughn plays the role of Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life's work, while his wife is Kelly Reilly.

McAdams stars as Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County sheriff's detective who is often at odds with the system she serves. Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups.

Justin Lin is directing the first two episodes. 

The much loved first season starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan.
