Saturday nights usually see families out of their homes and away from the TV screens. It is a task for channels to veer audiences on weekends. Star plus is trying to improve ratings in this slot with a show titled ‘Aek Chabhi Hai Padoss Mein’.
This one hour show captures the hub of life in the activities of a small friendly colony called ‘Colonelgunj’. It is produced by Anupam K Kalidhar and directed by Siddharth Sengupta.
A show has a set of characters and a storyline that the channel hopes viewers will identify with. Varun Badola makes a comeback on the channel as the lead actor after ‘Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand’ and is accompanied by Suhasi Garodia, Amita Nangia, Vishal Kotiyan, Manoj Goel, Ujjwal Chopra, Ravi Gossain, Vipul Tyagi, Aashish Roy and V.M Badola, amongst other cast members.
Why did they zero down on Varun for the lead role and Star India senior creative directorShailja Kejriwal quips, “Well, he is a popular face and our lucky mascot. The cast also includes many character actors from TV serials and few actors having a theatre background. It’s a simple, yet, a real life portrayal of a colony, where each person is a character in their own right.”
Denying that it is based on the ‘Nukkad’ formula, Shailja says, “We have seen success with the show ‘Baa Bahu Aur Baby’ that shows a slice of life within a family. And in ‘Aek Chabhi..’, we are attempting to show a similar slice of life but within a community.”
Revealing that they were working on this show for over a year, Shailja adds, “We were just looking for the right time slot. We have already canned almost 12 episodes and the show will debut on 25 November.”
