Having adopted the name Magda Davitt last year, the 51-year-old is now called Shuhada Davitt.

The "Nothing Compares 2U" singer revealed the news on Twitter, adding that she has changed her name to Shuhada Davitt.
''This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian's journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada'
''Thank you so much to all my Muslim brothers and sisters who have been so kind as to welcome me to Ummah today on this page. You can't begin to imagine how much your tenderness means to me(sic)'' she wrote.

The 51-year-old singer also shared a video of herself singing the Azan, the Islamic call to prayer.
''Here is my 1st attempt at singing the Azan. I got some pronunciation wrong because emotions took me from my page... but there'll be hundreds of others onstage to come ... (sic)''

Many of Connor's fans are supporting her decision to convert and a few welcomed her into the community.
Wow! Unbelievable! I first thought this is fake. Sinead O' Connor (now Shuhada Davitt) converts to Islam, recites Azan. One of my favorite singers. I've always loved her so much. Welcome to the community @MagdaDavitt77 @SineadOconnorHQ! https://t.co/1YYmobSX6t

We pray Allah ta’ala grants you steasfastness and sincerity. Find a good teacher and hold onto them with dear life.
But a lot of people were offended by her choice of words in the tweet.
I love when irrelevant people insult entire groups of other people with the announcement of their conversion. "Natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian," thereby any theologian not Muslim is unintelligent. But like I said, you're irrelevant to most of the world.

Am I the only one who found the “all other scriptures redundant” thing unnecessary?? I know the Islam is a monotheistic religion and that idolising another god is considered shirk and an unforgivable sin, but really??? In this day and age should we be saying stuff like this??? pic.twitter.com/h2kWDYLoQ9

I’ve known many, many “intelligent theologians,” and the idea that *any* religion represents a “natural conclusion” to a sprirtual journey is one they (& I) find entirely risible.

I’m glad you’re happy, but don’t assume everyone will reach the same conclusion.
